Praia is the capital, the seaport of the Republic of Cape Verde. The population of the city is about 62,000 inhabitants. As the capital, Praia was appointed in 1770, when Cape Verde was the Portuguese colony. After an appropriation by the country of independence in 1975, the city has saved the status. The best beaches in Praia are a short walk from the centre. The famous beaches are the Praia de Prainha and Praia Quebra Canela. If there is anything worth celebrating most Cape Verdeans will organize huge parties at the beach. Walking along the beach that runs from the Plateau to Prainha is called Praia de Gamboa. The Praiamar hotel is made in a nice location and as it is the only hotel in town. Another best place to stay in Praia is the Hotel Tropico. It's located in Prainha, one of the wealthiest parts of the city. It has the food-processing industry, effecting of furniture and building materials and also industry of tourism are advanced. 
Praia is an important unit of marine transatlantic lines and the center of trade in agricultural production in Cape Verde. Praia city is situated on the south shore of Santiago island. It is the island's ferry port and is home to one of the nation's two international airports. Praia is Cape Verde's largest city, it's a commercial center and a port that ships coffee, sugar cane, and tropical fruits. Praia also has a fishing industry. There are resort beaches nearby. Praia has schools or collegiates, lyceums, gymnasia, churches, beaches, ports, a university named after Jean Piaget, a post office and squares.
