Bahamas Overview

The Commonwealth of the Bahamas came into being in 1973 after centuries of colonial rule. The Bahamas gets its name from the Spanish, baja mar, meaning 'shallow sea'. The turquoise waters that lap this land are as calm and warm as its people. A coral-based archipelago, it is composed of more than 700 islands, 2,000 cays, and hundreds of rocky outcroppings that have damaged the hulls of countless ships since colonial days.

There are no restrictions on Foreigners buying property. If otherwise, the property must only be registered with the Investment Board and the Central Bank after the transaction.

  • The application should be submitted together with a copy of the proof of ownership, and evidence of payment of Stamp Duty and Real Property Tax.
  • Buyer and seller share the stamp tax and are responsible for their individual attorney's fees.
  • After the title has been shown and the balance of the purchase is paid, the property is transferred under the ownership of the new owner.
