India is situated in the Southern Asia, located at Indo-Australian Plate. It constitutes the major portion of the Indian subcontinent, which is home to various other South-Asian countries which include Pakistan, Sri-lanka and Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal. India’s geography is rich and diverse encompassing snow capped mountains of Himalayan region to far stretching Thar deserts, from sandy beaches of Goa to the heat of metropolitan cities like Mumbai and Delhi. The northern and northeastern states include Himachal Pardesh, the disputed territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pardesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Haryana, Uttarkhand and Rajasthan. Some of North Eastern and Northern states such as Himachal Pardesh and Kashmir are situated in the Himalayan Region. The rest of Northern, Central and Eastern India are situated in the fertile Indo-Gangetic plain. In the west, India borders Southern parts of Pakistan and shares the borders of Thar Desert. The Southern Indian Peninsula consists of Deccan plateau, which is bordered by two hilly coastal ranges known as Western Ghats and Eastern Ghats. Several major rivers flow through Indian region which includes Ganga, Brahmaputra, Yamuna, Godavari, Kaveri, Narmada, and Krishna.
