Lebanon » Maps and Geography
A Middle Eastern country, Lebanon is bordered by the Mediterranean to the west with a 225 km coastline, by Syria to the east and north, and by Israel to the south. The Lebanese-Syrian border stretches for 375 kilometers while the Lebanese-Israeli border is 79 kilometres in length. The border with Israel has been approved by the United Nations (see Blue Line), although a small piece of land called Shebaa Farms located in the Golan Heights, occupied by Israel, is claimed by Lebanon.
Lebanon is one of the smallest countries in the world with an area of 10,452 km² (4,035 mi²). Most of that area is mountainous terrain, except for the narrow coastline and the Beqaa Valley which constitutes an integral part of Lebanon's agriculture.
