Visas and Residency Issues

Travel Documents

People touring the Malaysia country must own an authorised national passport or a worldwide acceptable travel document. These documents should carry a permit of six month stay in Malaysia. Visa Requirements

Citizens of various countries are free from compulsion of the visa requirements for visiting Malaysia. These countries are United Kingdom, many commonwealth countries and United States of America. Citizens of the countries not listed above require visa before entering the country.  Visa applications in Malaysia including Malaysian residential issues take some time before approval.

Three kinds of visas are published by the Malaysian government.      

Single Entry Visa

This visa is useful for three month duration of stay within the country. These types of visas are issued for social visits.

Multiple Entry Visa

This visa is useful for staying the country for more than three and less than sixty months. These types of visas are issued for business and government matters.

Transit Visa

This visa is useful for visiting the country during the transit to other countries.  

Entry Passes

Foreign nationalist also require another type of document for entry the country. This document is called entry pass. These entry passes are useful for temporary stay within the country. Person with entry pass is not able to do job within the country nor can that person do business within the country of Malaysia.

Work Permits

Work permits are an essential piece of document for those people visiting Malaysia for employment purpose. Work permit document is usually permitted by the employer of the company.  The employee and their family usually enter to the Malaysia on the bases of social passes. The process of gaining these types of work permits some bit lengthy in Malaysia.

Malaysia My Second Home

The Malaysia My Second Home Programme (MM2H) is brought in by the Malaysian government for benefiting tourist industry and overall economy of the country. MM2H programme encourage people to spend their holidays in Malaysia and spend several months with in the country. This programme is not useful for gaining the permanent resident status here. The people of almost all countries and age groups, who are able to finance themselves within the country of Malaysia, are allowed to come and stay in Malaysia by taking part in MM2H programme.  
 

Permanent residence and Citizenship

A person has been living within the country for more than five year period is able to give application for permanent residence and citizenship for Malaysia. Following documents are important for launching the process of permanent residence within the country.
  • A completed Form IMM. 4 (select permanent resident status category)
  • Photocopy of your passport or travel documents covering the last 5/10 years
  • 2 passport-sized photographs
  • Passport-sized photograph of local sponsor
  • Identity card of spouse (if applicable)
  • Marriage certificate (if applicable)
  • Other supporting documents
