United Arab Emirates » Tourism
People travelling to DubaiTourism in Dubai is an important part of the Dubai government's strategy to maintain the flow of foreign dollars into the emirate. Dubai's lure for tourists is based mainly on shopping, but also on its possession of other ancient and modern attractions. Dubai is the most populous emirate of the seven emirates of United Arab Emirates (UAE). It is distinct from other members of the UAE in that revenues from oil account for only 6% of its gross domestic product. In 2005, the Dubai airport served 24.7 million passengers. Dubai International Airport will be complemented by Jebel Ali International Airport, a new 140 sq. km airport that will help handle the influx of travelers well into the future. Dubai has plans to attract 15m visitors by 2010 and 40m visitors by 2015. The annual growth rate in visitors to Dubai is between 10%-15% and growing all the time. |
